About
Who writes Japan Local Travel โ and why this site exists.
Who I Am
I'm a Japanese local living in Oita, a prefecture in Kyushu โ the southwestern island of Japan. I was born and raised here, and this is the only place I've ever called home.
Living in Oita means I know this region the way a resident does, not a visitor. The local bathhouses, the back-road restaurants, the festivals that don't make the guidebooks โ this is just everyday life for me.
I'm not a professional travel writer. I'm just someone who lives here, explores local spots on weekends, and genuinely loves sharing the Japan that guidebooks tend to overlook.
Why I Created This Site
Most English travel content about Japan covers the same destinations โ Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka. The information is often recycled from other websites and written by people who visited Japan once as a tourist.
I wanted to create a place where people curious about Japan could get first-hand, accurate information straight from someone who actually lives here. Not the polished tourist version โ the real one.
What I Cover
Travel
Transport, accommodation, planning, and the practical tips no guidebook bothers to include.
Culture
Japanese customs, etiquette, traditions, and the unwritten social rules of everyday life.
Food
What Japanese people actually eat โ from home kitchens to convenience stores to regional specialties.
Kyushu
Fukuoka, Beppu, Kumamoto, Nagasaki and beyond โ the real Kyushu from someone who lives here.
Disclaimer
All content on this site is based on my personal experience and opinions. While I do my best to keep information accurate and up to date, places, prices, and schedules can change. Please always verify the latest details through official sources before your trip.
